Is logic useless in the face of someone determined to hold on to their false perceptions?

How can a perception be false?

Perhaps you can get a fact wrong or be wrong on your conclusions but perceptions are completely based on a persons own viewpoint.

Logic can be useless sometimes if a person is stubborn and wont look at something from another viewpoint. Sometimes people make up their own logic to justify their conclusions.

waiting for atheists to condemn the hateful comments against religious people since so many atheists were so quick to condemn the lost comments against atheists in that previous question

oh wait, like I said, people only tend to condemn rude comments said by people they disagree with and if the rude comment is against a person they agree with then they tend to stay quiet or nod in agreement

oh the humanityIs logic useless in the face of someone determined to hold on to their false perceptions?
Probably, but your questions says more about you than it says about the person/people not buying your logic. If you're approaching somebody with something that you think is logical, and you're convinced that their perceptions are false, you're already starting from a place where you're finding them wrong. While we're on the subject, how logical is it to believe that everything can be explained logically? Although we may want the world to work like that, I don't know of any hard evidence that we necessarily live in a completely logical universe. Is logic useless in the face of someone determined to hold on to their false perceptions?
Well, if they think they're right, and you think you're right, then you both think the other is wrong.

Sometimes I think logic is useless with some people, but I sill keep trying to get through. You can't force others to change their views; you can only guide them honestly and wait for them to see. People are unique, and not everyone responds to logic. There are other ways to get a point across.

It's tough. I'm always at war with my temper over this question; do I let it go and hope for the best? or do I push the question further and further? What will do the most good? It comes up every day, in every situation.

Best wishes.
Yes, I think so. However, I do think at times one can make an inroad, but you don't know about it until later. For example, you might say something that makes the person question his or her stance, but he or she isn't going to say anything to you in the moment. They may not even realize it at the time.
yes, we humans have a fascinating ability to ignore facts and logical arguments, view them selectively or misinterpret them to fit our preconceptions. this applies to interpersonal reletionships (no, he loves me, he hits me out of love or naaa, she's not really saying NO)... to beliefs (so the sun goes around the earth), to political choices... etc.
yes, especially with extremely religious people. I tried it. I banged my head against the wall dealing with Fundies on the RS forum until I finally said fcuk it and gave up.

Let them cling to their stupid religions, because belief in the supernatural is finally dying out in our species, and although it does still exist, the Zeitgeist is changing at last.
It depends. Some people are wise enough to realize their own error in thought, and it can be possible to form common ground with them. Others are dead set in their ignorance, and would not want to give up their false preconceptions even if it were possible.
You might be talking to a brick wall but you can still achieve moral dominance over those religionists who don't have the integrity to defend their beliefs from a logical viewpoint. I'm always willing to justify my atheism to anyone who wants to debate with me.
Logic is bad for a lot of people because it takes away those things in which they need to believe.

Logic is hated because it successfully calls misplaced faith into question.

Irrational people are actually easier to manipulate and control

You think as a mere man, not a spiritual one. God said ';I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.'; God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish.
Absolutely!

Logic just cannot compete against false perception if that perception is propped up with the reinforcement of blind faith.
Yes! Even a four foot length of two by two applied judiciously and lovingly to the back of the cranium may be insufficient to restore any sense of rationality to the seriously deluded!
Also useless against their TRUE perceptions, for that matter.
Logic is never useless and people change.
logic and anything based in reality.
Unfortunately, more often than not, yes.
Yes, of course. Logic means nothing to someone who thinks an all powerful god wants them to do something - or else!
Logic cannot crack a closed mind.
Totally. You can only reach them through their fear.
Yes.
Yes, until they decide to change their mind
what logic??????
In a word...yes.
