Why does society have false perceptions of fundamentalist Christians?

I believe it is because the term has been hijacked by extreme right wing legalists who seem not to understand that the fundamentals of Christianity are love and forgiveness. God bless you.Why does society have false perceptions of fundamentalist Christians?
It is hard to explain why fundamentalist Christians have not been exposed as the radical, bigoted, hateful, US Constitution and freedom hating threat that they are.





The only thing that prevents them from committing mass murder and whacking-off heads on TV just like their conservative Muslim brothers and sisters is the secular rule of law that governs our nation. And that is precisely the reason they are fighting so hard to be included in America's political system - so they can legally impose their primitive beliefs and perverted lifestyle on everyone.Why does society have false perceptions of fundamentalist Christians?
It's not a false perception--it's advancing intellectually. Fundies generally try to interpret the bible literally...which is crazy.


1) Was the Earth *really* created 6,000 years ago..?


2) Should we *really* kill everyone who works on the sabbath?





There's so much more crazy talk provided in there.
Christianity down over ten percent in less than a decade and the loss is accelerating that is why - oh and it is not a false impression!!!!





Christian Fundamentalist is a complete contradiction in terms!!





CHRISTIAN 鈥?A follower or believer in Jesus.





FUNDAMENTALIST One who believes the Bible is literally true and must be followed exactly.





Therefore they are followers of the bible and not Jesus making them non Christians!!!





But worse is to follow it also makes them ideologists.





IDEOLOGY An idea that is false or held for the wrong reasons but is believed with such conviction as to be irrefutable.





So Christians have a loving and forgiving god and fundamentalist - well - Just are not Christians!!!!





Until you discover the loving god, put away your fixation on the bible and learn to act like it you will continue to drive non believers away from hearing the word and worse - drive decent honorable and god loving people out of the church!!

I believe that website is still active...you should tell Pastor Phelps that such sites send out the false perception that christians are hateful and intolerant people.
What false perceptions? And if they are false, fundamentalist Christians should look more closely at how they behave and how it makes other people perceive them.
